This idyllic town situated at the mouth of the Bushman's River has loads to offer the visitor. With its wonderful views of the Boesmans (the 2nd longest tidal river in South Africa) both river and sea beaches are within strolling distance.
Boesmansriviermond (often anglicised to Bushman's River Mouth) started life as a campsite on Department of Forestry land for farmers and townspeople from nearby Alexandria. Eventually the Department gave permission for permanent shacks to be built on the land. Real development only started happening in this area in the late 70s. Until then most houses didn't even have electricity but ran on gas!
Boesmansriviermond, known locally as Boesmans, has now expanded to include Riversbend, a development further along the river. Officially Boesmansriviermond has ±3500 permanent residents, but that swells to over 10,000 people in the season. Boesmans has 2 shopping centres 1 of which is the newly opened Sunshine Coast Gateway Centre.

Nature
For nature lovers Bushman's River Mouth is an amazing place! Experience postcard beaches by walking 3km from Bushman's to Kwaaihoek when it is low tide - a favoured Sunday morning activity by locals. You're bound to see many marine creatures on the beach doing their thing. You may even be fortunate enough to spot a whale or two (Humpback and Right Whales occur on these coastlines).
There are plenty of rock pools in and around Bushman's where you and the kids can spend ages exploring - but don't disturb the environment to much!
Boesmans is also on the border of the world famous Addo Elephant Park and close to many other also famous private game reserves like Shamwari and Kariega. Boesmans - a favourite of bird watchers - has some exceptional birdlife including the majestic Fish Eagle, the Gray Crowned-Crane (or Mahem) and the Red-billed Oystercatcher.
